ABSTRACT Light-emitting ytterbium-doped tantalum-oxide thin films were prepared using a simple co-sputtering method for the first time. Sharp photoluminescence peaks having a wavelength of around 980 nm were observed from films annealed from 700°C to 1000°C for 10 to 40 min. The strongest intensity of the 980-nm peak was obtained from a film deposited using three ytterbium-oxide pellets and annealed at 800°C for 20 min. Such rare-earth doped tantalum-oxide sputtered films can be used as high-refractive-index materials of autocloned photonic crystals that can be applied to novel light-emitting devices, and they will also be used as both anti-reflection and down-conversion lay...

ABSTRACT The present study shows some important effects of chemical treatment on the structure and morphology of coir fibre. The objective of the present study is to optimise overall properties of coir fibre so as to use coir fibre as a reinforcing agent in thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. In the present study, coir fibre is treated with ferric nitrate salt. A thermal treatment has been done at temperatur...

ABSTRACT The magnetron sputtered La 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 films were implanted with different doses (5 ′ 10 15 ions×cm?2 and 5 ′ 10 16 ions×cm ?2 ) of Al ions at different negative pulsed voltages (30 kV and 50 kV) by plasma based ion implantation and then annealed at 973 K for 1 h in air. The microstructure, surface morphologies, surface roughness, metal-insulator transition and room temperature emittance properties of the post-implantation annealed films were investigated and compared with those of the  La 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 film annealed at 973 K for 1 h in a...

ABSTRACT The mechanical properties such as hardness and ultimate tensile strength of metals depend on the grain size, which have to be properly controlled and optimized to ensure the better economy and desirable mechanical characteristics of the metals. In order to study the microstructure evolution of AA1070, many experimental tests were conducted at different cold working and annealing conditions. Utilizing the experimental results, the static recrystallization and grain growth behavior of AA1070 have been investigated and the developed equations that can be used to the FEM of the annealing process have been obtained. The agreement between numerical modeling and experimental results is r...

Matjafri Affiliation(s) Nano-Optoelectronics Research and Technology Laboratory, School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia . ABSTRACT In this work ITO thin film annealing was carried out using a CW CO2 laser beam for ITO thin film annealing over a 1 cm2 area with a temperature higher than 250°C to obtain ITO grains with excellent structural quality thin films. The obtained ITO films were characterized for crystallization, surface morphology, electrical and optical properties, which has theoretical significance and application value. ITO thin films are depos...
