Ltd., Changsha, China . ABSTRACT In order to decrease the content of heavy metals in the crops soils, a novel method based on using an aqueous solution bearing cysteamine as the key ingredient was studied to extract the polluted heavy metals including Cd, Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb. By using the single-factor method, remediation-related technical index were screened and they are, respectively, applied to the solid material whereby the heavy metals are released and extracted from the ...

Using Ferrous Ion for the Reductive Degradation of Hexavalent Chromium

Read  full  paper  at: http://www.scirp.org/journal/PaperInformation.aspx?PaperID=52968#.VK3xYMnQrzE Author(s)   Jude O. Ighere , Karina Honjoya , Ramesh C. Chawla Affiliation(s) Chemical Engineering Department, Howard University, Washington DC, USA . ABSTRACT This paper discusses the toxicity and mobility of chromium species. And it presents the extent and kinetics of reductive remediation of hexavalent chromium, Cr + using ferrous ion, Fe 2+ . Molar ratios of 1:3 and 1:6 of Cr (VI) to Fe (II) were used. Integral method of data analysis showed reaction followed second-order kinetics with R square values near unity. Reaction was initially fast but with a rapid precipitation attributed to Cr (III)-Fe (III) in previous studies. This colloidal precipitate ultimately stops the reaction, which explains while conversion efficiency increases with increased molar ratio of Cr (VI) to Fe (II). The impact of pH was investigated by adjusting the C...

Review: Silica Aerogel as a Viable Absorbent for Oil Spill Remediation

Read full paper at: http://www.scirp.org/journal/PaperInformation.aspx?PaperID=52056#.VIEC9GfHRK0 Author(s) Abiodun Paul Olalekan 1 , Adewunmi Oluwasogo Dada 2 , Olusola Adedayo Adesina 1 Affiliation(s) 1 Department of Chemical Engineering, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Nigeria . 2 Department of Industrial Chemistry, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Nigeria . ABSTRACT The review article reflects on the potential of silica aerogel as viable absorbents for spilled crude oil. Reported oil absorption capacity of silica aerogel shows it has a future in polluted site clean-up. The review presents the various dynamics of oil spill, conventional clean-up technologies and silica aerogel synthesis techniques. It also...
