This work is a very slightly modified translation of
my text in Polish, published in 1994 by Oficyna Literacka in Krakow as a
thin booklet under the title ABSOLUT—Odniesienie urojone (The
Absolute—A Delusive Reference). It is a purely philosophical work. Here,
in contrast to my later books and articles, I do not put emphasis on
inferring properties of the conceptual network from the underlying
neuronal network in the brain. I talk primarily about what is directly
accessible to our consciousness, to our “selves”, but without denying
the existence of a real external world, the “things in themselves”
existence of which we can only infer indirectly from the structure of
our conceptual network. I believe that this work is still overwhelmingly
valid, although today I prefer a less philosophical and more scientific
approach (Korzeniewski, 2010; Korzeniewski, 2013a; Korzeniewski,
2013b).
