The world has witnessed growing political
participation among young people in recent years. With evolving individual
values and family roles, young people now play an important role in the present
socio-political milieu.
This study, based on Singapore, focuses on whether
political socialization by family and peers can affect the online and offline
political participation of youth. As a result, online and newspaper news
exposure was found to significantly correlate with youth's online political
participation, but not with their offline political participation. Besides,
there's also positive correlation between mother's education and respondent's
offline political participation.
